Thanks so much for your help ladies! What would an accountant want from me? Could I simply call and ask to submit for April 2014-2015 and present my income/expenditure for the year April 2014-2015? Would I need to present anything else?

I have no children but I still want free money - how do I find out this stuff?
I'm not too sure about that, MiL, but if you call up a chartered accountant, then after a chat on the phone they usually ask if you can come and talk to them in person. They'll tell you anything you need to bring with you.

You could qualify for Working Tax Credits, don't think you need kids for that. I'm afraid anything else you will have to research, there is probably stuff you qualify for and I don't. Best bet is to have a look around the financial forums, the gov.co.uk sites etc etc. Can be daunting but could be worth it to some

I can't really help with that one either as I already had my accountant from a previous business and he was also a friend of a friend. If I was starting from scratch I would go through the phone book, ring a few and talk to them, ask how much they charge and what info they would require etc, you certainly don't need to be giving them any information at this point.

Okay ladies, thank you! I'll have a call around and see where I stand/what they would need.
